Members-Only: Governors Island Birding and House Tour (5/4)

05/04/2024 09:30 AM - 11:00 AM ET

Admission

  • Free

Description

Governors Island is host to a wide array of avian visitors in the spring, including raptors, woodpeckers, warblers, and other songbirds. Though substantially transformed over the past few centuries, the island’s placement in the middle of the upper harbor continues to make it a natural stopover spot for migrating birds. The tour will meet on Governors Island in front of the NEW location of our seasonal environmental center. After the bird outing, participants can enjoy a tour of our seasonal environmental center before it opens to the public.

Registration required. NYC Audubon members only; please note that you may sign up for only one members-only event per season. Limited to 20.

Accessibility and DIrections:

The Governors Island ferry is free on weekends before noon, but you will still need to reserve ferry tickets. Governors Island contains a variety of terrain, from hilly, grassy areas to paved and cobblestone paths. The latter can be difficult to travel on with strollers, for example. Public restrooms are located a short distance away from Colonels Row.
